A colorful edition to the 1906R collection, which previously appeared in neutral tones.
The colors of this release might not resonate with most sneakerheads, but basketball fans might appreciate this pair. The color combo is inspired by the basketball jerseys of the Charlotte Hornets. This team from South Carolina is a major player in the NBA. We have seen a lot of court-inspired releases over the past decades. The Nike Dunk is of course a hugely popular example, but Kangaroos, Fila and of course New Balance are also involved in this.
Ironically, this design is not a (basketball) on-court design at all. The 1906R falls under running sneakers with a running design. New Balance thought 'the Dunk design is overdone, we're going to use something else from the basketball world'. This translated into this colorful sneaker. The brand has been an official partner of the NBA for a few years, and they want to express their love for the sport in various ways.
The intricate mesh of the sneaker covers the top with irregular synthetic strips and distinctive branding. Accompanied by raised rubber soles for cushioning, reinforced with N-ergy tech in the soles. And coated in white and dark shades, with shiny elements too. The metallic colors are upcoming this year, Asics already came with the Gel-1130 earlier. These features make this a silhouette that works for any rotation.
