The New Balance 550, or as it was called in 1989, "P550," has its roots in basketball. The sneaker did not want to be particularly flashy then and still does not want to be now, but rather scores points with functionality, authenticity and simple court-style. The upper consists of linen with with some suede overlays, combined with a rubber sole. This linen is made from fibers from the hemp plant, hence the name ‘Hemp’.
